One of the most adorable and fun nursery rhymes of all times is, “There Was a Crooked Man.” This traditional English poem that became a very popular nursery rhyme was published in 1842. The first recording of this adorable poem and nursery rhyme was said to have been done by James Orchard Haliwell.

Many say that the poem itself is referencing the crooked border of Scotland and England and how they finally came to agreement. However, others say it’s a poem that focuses of morals or the lack of such morals with references to being, “crooked,” and the household of such also being, “crooked.” Most people today just see it as an amusing and fun nursery rhyme and poem that is both entertaining and fun.

The poem, “There Was a Crooked Man,” can be found included in a variety of nursery rhyme books and almost always includes a picture of a bent over elderly gentleman with a cane.
