The first crayons were in made in Europe and most likely were formed from oil and charcoal. The oil was replaced with wax eventually so the sticks would be easier to handle and cleaner to use. In the early 1900s crayons started being mass produced in America to help cut down the cost of expensive imported crayon for school children. Crayons are said to be one of the most recognizable scents to American adults. It's no wonder because the average child uses 730 crayons before there tenth birthday. The crayon provides children with a non toxic, relatively clean way to explore their creativity in a wide variety of color.
Crayons are a timeless gift or activity that kids always love and so do parents.
